As early as the 15th century, the Greierhube already existed on the site where today the Kirchheimerhof sits enthroned on the high plateau above the roofs of Bad Kleinkirchheim.
Formerly known as "im Kray", meaning "with those at the side", the house was very popular for its incredible views at that time.
What began centuries ago at this wonderful spot on the edge of the Nockberge mountains, Elli and Otto Hinteregger shifted into the focus of Bad Kleinkirchheim's tourism activities in 1960. It was that auspicious year when the Hinteregger family bought the Greierhube, marking the birth of the present Kirchheimerhof. Elli, a skilled cook and confectioner, and Otto, a passionate landlord.
A perfect mélange that has been providing genuine hospitality to this day. Elli and Otto Hinteregger laid the foundation for a family tradition of values which its descendants have build on with hard work and enthusiasm.
The brothers Gerald and Wolfgang introduced many innovations and carried out expansions from 1985 on. The result is the gourmet and family hotel known for its attention to detail and harmonious style.
Since 2003, Gerald and his wife Sigrun have been running the Kirchheimerhof.
And the next generation of the Hinteregger family of hoteliers is getting ready.
After having graduated from the Salzburg/Bramberg college as certified tourism professionals, both daughter Anna and son Moritz are already fully involved in the family’s hotel business.

1970
- From an inn to a hotel with 50 beds and the first indoor swimming pool with sauna in Bad Kleinkirchheim
1985
- Hotel expansion from 50 to 90 beds
- Reconstruction of the wellness area and extension with indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, Finnish and steam sauna
1986
- Redesign of hotel driveway, sunbathing lawn and park.
1988
- Construction of the recreational facilities: squash hall, children's land, tennis court and golf driving range
1989
- Relocation of the granary at the hotel and conversion into the rustic cozy "Groar Alm" a few steps from the hotel and directly at the ski slope with approx. 35 seats and large sun terrace.
1991
- Construction of the adventure outdoor pool
1992
- Hotel extension to 160 beds
1993
- Extension of the dining room
1995
- Expansion of the stable for Limousin cattle breeding
1996
- From the historical vegetable and coal cellar to the popular wine depot for tastings of fine wines
2000
- Conversion of the heating system from oil to pellets and construction of the photovoltaic system on the hotel roof
2002
- Extension and renovation of the hotel kitchen
2003
- Extension and expansion of the wellness area: 5 new saunas, cosmetic and treatment rooms, panorama relaxation room
2006
- Redesign of 19 rooms with high-quality pine wood and garnet stone - the power stone of love - both materials sourced from our Nockberge region.
- A fitness room is added.
2007
- Opening and integration of the Zirbenstube into the lobby area as a cozy place for convivial get togethers.
2008
- Redesign of lobby, reception and bar area and the "Kirchheim Corner" restaurant.
2010
- Adaptation of relaxation room and expansion with an infrared sauna.
- Renovation and refurnishing of the staff house.
2012
- Children's land is extended by one storey with climbing wall, tower with slide and many other attractions.
- Acquisition of the magic carpet exclusively for hotel guests.
2013
- Construction of the nature play arena with tree house, climbing ropes, sandbox and mud area with its own fountain, slide…
- Redesign of outdoor area with cozy spots to chill out.
2014
- Redesign of 25 rooms with high-quality materials, artistic elements by a local artist and the popular “Murmelbau” family suites.
- Acquisition of the soft pack divan included in the extended SPA well-being concept.
- Acquisition of a snow-making system for the on-snow play area.
- Opening of the 1st farmhouse coffee shop in the Groar Alm.
2015
- Certification as organic farm and modernization of the herb garden with raised planting beds.
- New stove for an even cozier ambience in the rustic Groar Alm.
- Newly built hotel laundry.
- Renewal of the passenger elevator I.
2016
- Redesign of the buffet area with "Show Kitchen" as well as the Hinteregger Stube extension of the dining room.
- Connection to the LAWZ Klagenfurt (fire alarm system).
- Construction of Spray Land with fancy water attractions.
- Adaptation of the indoor swimming pool to give it a new look & feel and expansion of the relax loungers.
- Resurfacing of the Groar Alm outdoor area with asphalt and furnishing with comfortable benches.
- Opening of our "Panorama Loft" vacation apartments.
- Large-scale installation of the free Wifi network throughout the hotel and in the Groar Alm.
2017
- Energy production, coupling of power & heat: natural wood pellets are used as a source for two energy sources: electricity and thermal energy.
- Extension of the hotel parking facilities
- Purchase of a new solarium.
- Renewal of the passenger elevator II.
- Extension of the stables for our mini farm.
2018
- Construction of the new Kirchheimerhof gym.
- Adaptations in the Kirsche Junior Suites
2019
- XL shower in selected family rooms.
- Family room with wooden floor
- Even more panorama views ensured by new windows in the indoor pool.
- XL ski storage NEW with direct access to the hotel.

- We are honored to carry the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism since May.
